My doula Veronica did an amazing job at my daughter’s home birth (my first child). In the months leading up to the birth, we had done meetings to talk about birth plans and natural pain management techniques. This being my first birth, I was not sure what I would like and dislike during the actual experience but Veronica gave me many options to choose from and implemented the ones that felt best for me in the moment. She did a great job communicating with me, my husband, and (when I was in labor) my midwives. She tracked my contractions as things got more intense which made it easy for me to focus on my own body. She guided me in positions to get the baby to engage and guided my husband in physical support for me (massage, double hip squeeze, etc.). The birth experience was wonderful.
Also her willing support postpartum was a huge relief for me mentally. She was open for questions and ready to connect me to a lactation specialist if necessary. This left me feeling cared for and prepared to face whatever trial would come with being the mom of a newborn (without having to worry about who to contact).
If I have another baby in the future I hope to have her again! <3
